DaVero Winery tasting room hours: 11am-5pm Friday through Monday; Tuesday – Thursday by appointment only.
Why go: Small family winery with great wines and friendly hospitality. I highly recommend adding DaVero to your schedule when visiting Sonoma County.
DaVero Winery produces California-grown wines of Italian heritage: Rosato, Vermentino (shown in photo, right), Moscato, Dolcetto, Carignano, Barbera, Sangiovese and more. Grapes are sourced from California’s northern and central growing regions where Italian varietals produce excellent harvests, including Lodi, Mendocino and Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley where the winery is located. The result are wines that are well balanced, smooth and bear strong resemblance to their Italian cousins. Production lots are small and several wines are offered for tasting but available for sale to wine club members only.
Wines are available by the glass if you would like to sip and stroll through the garden. I recommend taking the time to do so, as you will likely run across a few painters working under umbrella shades and – if you stay on the path – you’ll make it back to where pigs sleep huddled together in the shade through warm summer days. There are also chickens and sheep on the farm if you keep walking toward the eastern edge of the property. Olive trees were the first plantings on the property and still produce rich oils also for sale in the tasting room.
If your glass of Sangiovese is a small, family winery with excellent wines located freeway-close to everywhere but still off the beaten path – stop by DaVero.
