Tasting room hours: Daily 10:30am to 5:00pm.
Why go: Large wine selection, many options for visitors – tours, specialty tastings and more.
Kunde Family Winery is easy to find, about twenty minutes north of downtown Sonoma on Highway 12, often called Valley Of The Moon Highway on local street signs. If you’re looking for a simple tasting without a reservation, there’s plenty of parking and service at the wine bar is friendly and efficient. You’ll find some wines on the tasting menu that are available for purchase only at the winery, including one of my favorites – 2015 Red Dirt Red, Sonoma Valley, in the 2015 vintage a blend of Zinfandel, Syrah and Barbera grown on the Kunde Estate ($35). Across the board, wines are high quality and an excellent value.
Visitors may find the Kunde hospitality complex busy. This is not a cozy destination where the owners greet you on arrival. There is much to do at Kunde and there are many rooms and spaces available for large groups and special events. There are hiking tours, cave tours and many different types of tastings. Feel free to drop in, but if you plan on taking a tour or experiencing a unique tasting while in Sonoma County wine country, check out their latest offerings online and make a reservation.
