Two Birds/One Stone looks classic Californian from the reception desk, yet has the menu of a Japanese grill that straddles the line between east and west. Unique items make “Two Birds” one of the few places I recommend not bringing wine in with you – trust their list of locally-produced wines to pair with their food.
Check out the menu on their web site for their latest culinary creations. I picked the “Whole Fried Chicken” (picture) with a Japanese-style Buffalo sauce.
Located in the remodeled Freemark Abbey complex on the north side of downtown St. Helena on Highway 29, Two Birds is easy to find and parking is painless. There is a bar (happy hour each Friday, 4:30pm to 6pm) if you want to stop by just for a sip.
Reservations are required for parties of 11 or more. There is a glass-enclosed private dining area that can be reserved (picture).
