Elizabeth Spencer Wines operates their tasting room in a small brick cottage on the southeast corner of Highway 29 and Rutherford Road in Napa Valley. Perhaps the only building in the area of comparable size is the tiny Rutherford Post Office across the street, which shares a parking lot with the Rutherford Grill. But things are changing at Elizabeth Spencer. Their corner site, measuring well over an acre, is being developed to provide guests with additional indoor and outdoor space for tasting and events. Earlier this week I attended a cozy Prime Time dinner for wine industry friends and enjoyed a tour of the grounds with Elizabeth Pressler, President and co-founder. Below are a few photos from that evening. I’ll be visiting for another event in mid-May and will provide an update on development of the facility then.
If you’re not familiar with Elizabeth Spencer wines, you have something to look forward to. Grapes are sourced locally from prime Napa Valley vineyards and from the Sonoma Coast and Mendocino County. Wines are produced from a wide spectrum of varietals, primarily Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, Chardonnay, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Retail prices are moderate within the premium category (examples – 2012 Rutherford Chardonnay: $50 and 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Classic Cuvée: $85). A high level of quality is consistent across the full range of wines.
At the tasting room, service is down-home friendly with staff who know wine and the Valley. There is bar space for tasting inside the brick cottage (standing only) and a very pleasant seating area outdoors on the Rutherford Road side. Another indoor space, The Studio, recently opened on the Highway 29 side of the property, providing table seating for about fifty more wine-tasting guests.
The tasting room address is 1165 Rutherford Road, Rutherford, CA 94573. Hours are daily 10am to 6pm, closed Christmas. Tasting room telephone: (707) 963-6067. Enjoy the photos below and I hope you will stop in and try these exceptional wines. Their web site: Elizabeth Spencer Wines.

Stocking up on summer wine is Priority One for Wine Adventurers this time of year. I picked up a few bottles of these great wines to sip on warm summer afternoons.
Disclosure: Dinner event was gratis to wine industry guests and I am a member of the Elizabeth Spencer Wines wine club.
