It’s been hot in Wine Country this week, over 100 degrees several days in row. It’s the kind of heat that drives you to look deep in the wine fridge to find a satisfying after-work thirst quencher. Luckily for me, I found a bottle of Stephen & Walker 2014 Posy Pink Rosé that had been received as a gift earlier this year. If you’re looking for a refreshing summer wine to beat the heat and deliver on taste, this is it.
The 2014 Posy Pink Rosé is bottled only in 1.5L magnums, because as partner and veteran winemaker Nancy Walker says in her online notes, “it goes down so quickly.” Indeed it does. My first sip gave a hint of plum, but quickly behind it emerged strawberry, kiwi, cherry and pear. Nancy’s notes say to look for guava-pineapple, key-lime and pomegranate, too. The wine is made from 60% Carignange, 20% Zinfandel, 10% Syrah and 10% Petit Sirah.
If you’ve been drinking Prosecco and other relatively low alcohol wines during this summer heat, the 2014 Posy Pink Rosé will fit right in at 13%. The price is also right at $45 for the 1.5L bottle (online).
You can purchase Stephen & Walker Trust Winery wines and learn more about the company and their full line-up of wines online (click here) or visit their tasting room in downtown Healdsburg. I’ll be stopping in soon during my next Sonoma County Wine Adventure.
