Mulled wine, which is most popular in regions that experience long cold winters, is simply wine that has been warmed and spiced. Typical recipes include adding sugar, ground cinnamon, ginger, pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves and other spices to red wine.
To try making mulled wine yourself, visit the New York Times cooking section for their traditional mulled wine recipe.
Mulled Wine Day is celebrated globally each year on March 3rd.
