National Bacon Day celebrates one of the most versatile ingrediants in cooking – bacon. In the United States and Canada bacon is cut from pork belly while in Europe, parts of the shoulder are a more common source. Bacon is known for its distinct flavor, when cooked alone or added to other dishes.
The aroma of bacon is also considered generally pleasant and although it is not as widely used as floral scents, the fragrance of bacon can be found in some soaps, candles and air fresheners.
This food recognition day was founded in 1997 and is now celebrated annually on December 30th.
