National Beer Day is believed to have been started around 2007 by a couple friends who worked in the brewing industry. The date of April 7th was selected because it was the day in 1933 that the Cullen-Harrison Act was enacted. The Cullen-Harrison Act was the first step toward repeal of the Volstead Act, also known as Prohibition. Cullen-Harrison allowed for states to decide if they wanted brewing and sales of low-alcohol beer. Upon signing the law, President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated, “I think this would be a good time for a beer.”
