National Pizza Day is one of those holidays with an unknown origin, but we’re glad it comes around every year. Pizza is one of the most beloved foods served in America and is on the menu of about 17% of all restaurants in the country. It’s believed the first pizza restaurant opened in Naples, Italy in 1738 and the first pizzeria in America opened in 1895. The most popular topping, whether on New York thin crust or Chicago-style deep dish, is pepperoni.
Many pizza restaurants offer specials on February 9th, some for the entire week before National Pizza Day. Check with your favorite local restaurants for special offers.
