Our May Featured Destination is Jeremy Wine Company in downtown Lodi, California. If you haven’t been to the Lodi area for wine adventures – you’re missing out! There are many great wine destinations throughout the region and tasting rooms there are warm and welcoming – Jeremy Wine Company is one of the most highly rated.
Downtown Lodi is looking good lately. The streets are clean, people are friendly, and parking is easy. Jeremy Wine Company’s tasting room is easy to find, bright red and white umbrellas cover sidewalk seating if you want to keep an eye on the activity on West Pine Street. There are a few tables inside and the courtyard offers a relaxing atmosphere in fresh air.
As the sign (right) says, they serve flights, glasses and bottles at reasonable prices. This is Zinfandel country, but you’ll find a wide variety of wines available for tasting. The general theme appears to be Italian-style, whether the varietal is classic Sangiovese, Barbera or a blend.
On my recent visit I chose the Red Flight, which includes The Understudy and Gentleman blends, plus a nice Petit Verdot (see photo below). All were delicious and several bottles were packed for me to take home.
If the courtyard appears empty, it’s because I arrived right before closing time. I’m told the place gets packed on weekends, so there is a slim chance you may have a short wait for a table if you go during prime tasting hours (1pm – 4pm). Groups of 6 or more should consider making reservations.
If you plan to venture outside of town, tastings are also available Friday through Sunday at their winery in nearby Lockeford (about 15 minutes away).
