Gregory Graham Wines is located in the rolling hills of Lake County, where growing conditions are warm and grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah thrive. Drive a half hour to forty five minutes north from Calistoga past Middleton, where pine forests thin and long stretches of vineyards come into view. Read the back label on many of the best bottles of Sauvignon Blanc produced in Napa Valley and you’ll see that the grapes were grown in these Lake County vineyards. Many other grape varietals also do very well in the hilly soil and warm growing conditions.
The tasting room will remind you of Napa Valley tasting experiences a decade or two ago. The room is open only on weekends and the tasting bar is a small area located in the production facility. The emphasis here seems to be on quality farming and making great wine. A tasting flight might include whites (Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier) and reds (Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel) produced from local vineyards, plus a Chardonnay sourced from Carneros south of Sonoma.
I highly recommend stopping by the Gregory Graham Wines tasting room when on a Lake County Wine Adventure.
Tasting Room hours: Friday through Sunday, 11am to 5pm, call for appointment other days: (707) 995-3500.
