It’s International Merlot Day – time to celebrate the grape that blends so well with Caberntet Sauvignon and is fabulous on its own. The name Merlot is believed to have been derived from “merle” (French for blackbird) and refers to the deep dark color of the small and intense grapes. Merlot is the most common varietal grown in Bordeaux, with three times the vines compared to Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot is the third most-planted grape varietal in Napa Valley, following Cabernet Sauvignon at #1 and Chardonnay at #2.

This day of recognition occurs annually on November 7th.
