Mulled wine, which is most popular in regions that experience long cold winters, is simply wine that has been warmed and spiced. Typical recipes include adding various mixtures of sugar, ground cinnamon, ginger, pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves and other spices to red wine, then topping it with a slice of fruit (often orange).
