Happy National Zinfandel Day! Zinfandel is a red wine grape, also called Primitivo, that is one of the most versatile when it comes to making different styles. Most know Zinfandel as a medium or full-bodied red wine that can have alcohol levels above 15%, however White Zinfandel outsells red by nearly six times the volume.
In the United States, Zinfandel is grown primarily in California’s Central Valley and makes up about 10% of recent annual grape harvests. Zinfandel wines in their various forms – red, white and blush – make up around 12% of total wine consumption in the US.
National Zinfandel Day is celebrated on the third Wednesday each November.
