Although quality dining is available throughout Napa Valley, many consider the village of Yountville a culinary mecca with more Michelin stars than the Milky Way. While on a recent Wine Adventure, I made a quick lunch stop, my first visit, at the R+D Kitchen on the north end of Washington Street.

Park in central Yountville and great restaurants and shopping are only a block or two in any direction. For the more adventurous, walk north along Washington Street through downtown parks and past a few wine tasting rooms (stop as necessary). In a few minutes you’ll reach Madison Street and a cluster of restaurants and shops on the northwest corner. Enter R+D Kitchen from Washington Street or Madison Street.

The restaurant is larger than it appears when driving by (you can see the sign and entrance from Highway 29). There is plenty of seating inside and out. There are also two bars, a large one inside and another outside.

Service is friendly and efficient, you won’t be kept waiting to order and the food is delivered quickly. There were lots of tables available during my visit, but plan for at least a short wait for summer and weekend dinners. R+D reservations are now available on Resy.

The menu is very California – lots of fresh and local items. The daily special was a ham and cheese sandwich (picture), which was fantastic.  I’ll be returning to try other menu items.

This is a great stop during a Wine Adventure or for a special Napa Valley dining experience.
