National Apple Pie Day celebrates one of America’s favorite and most versatile combinations of fruit, pastry and so much more! Apple pie may be an American favorite, but the first known recipes for apple pie appeared more than 900 years ago in England. Regardless, the terms “for mom and apple pie” and “as American as mom and apple pie” were commly expressed by soldiers in World War II when asked why they joined the military. A car company mentioned applie pie in an advertising slogan that some may remember – “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet.”
Whether you like your pie served hot out of the oven, cooled on the window sill, or topped with whipped cream or ice cream, enjoy a slice (or two) of apple pie today.
National Apple Pie Day is celebrated annually on May 13th.
