National Eggnog Day celebrates that popular holiday beverage made with milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar and ground spices. Dark rum or Brandy is often added to give the basic mixture a kick, though recipes that include Bourbon are also popular.  A dusting of nutmeg, sprinkling of chopped nuts, a cinnamon stick, and powdered sugar on the rim of the glass are common. Eggnog is most often served chilled, but the drink may be prepared cooked or uncooked . Caution – consumption of raw or undercooked eggs, shellfish and meat may increase the risk of foodborne illness.

Celebrated annually on December 24th.
