National Waffle Day is an annual celebration of one of the world’s favorite and most versatile breakfast treats. This date was chosen because on August 24, 1869 inventor Cornelius Swarthout received his patent for the first waffle iron. Waffles had been around for 500 years by that time, but Swarthout created a kitchen tool that would produce consistant results in the home.
