The Court Of Two Sisters frontThe Court of Two Sisters is one of the most popular restaurants in New Orleans’ French Quarter, famous for live jazz music and tasty Creole cuisine. On my recent visit for Sunday brunch, a constant rain made dining in the courtyard impossible, but I still enjoyed the food and general ambiance in the adjacent indoor dining room.

The restaurant is at 613 Royal Street, formerly Rue Royale. Royal Street runs parallel to Bourbon Street, one block to the northwest (see map below photos). As early as 1726, the site was home to a series of French governors, then later to a future president (Zachery Taylor) and various state and federal Supreme Court justices. In the early years, the 600 block was known as “Governors Row.” The present structure that houses the restaurant was built in 1832. By the late 1800’s, two sisters established a notions shop named “The Shop of Two Sisters” that operated until 1904, which is how the court got its name. The current restaurant has been in operation since 1963.

Indoor dining at Court Of Two Sisters

There are three interior dining rooms in addition to the large courtyard seating area: one adjacent to the courtyard, one at the front of the building along Royal Street, and another upstairs. The kitchen and brunch buffet are located in the center of the building, making a bit of a walk to and from the serving lines for guests eating in the front and upstairs dining rooms.

There is no brunch menu, drinks are served at the table but all the food is served from the buffet lines. Omelettes are made to-order, remaining buffet items are served in the hot buffet line, on the cold line (salads, fruit and rolls) or on the dessert line. Everything is fresh and menu items feature Creole cooking. Even at the height of the brunch hour, the lines move along briskly. All in all, an excellent dining experience.

A good jazz trio played indoors during brunch.
