As often happens in Wine Country, you stumble across an exciting new Wine Adventure when you least expect it. Visiting Arrowood Vineyards & Winery was the result of a recommendation from the tasting room staff at a winery just down the road. Barely visible from Highway 12, the Arrowood tasting room sits a bit back from the road and elevated for a nice vineyard and valley view. Be careful or you’ll miss the small sign at the driveway that’s shared near the highway with another winery.
On this day it was a perfect April afternoon for visiting wineries, but traffic was light in this part of Sonoma Valley, just minutes north of downtown Sonoma. Most of the tasting rooms had few visitors and Arrowood was no different. There was plenty of seating on the veranda and we choose the Wine and Cheese Pairing ($35 per person) that came with a flight of Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. They were all excellent wines. Though not usually a Viognier fan, Arrowood’s was very smooth and drinkable. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon was also worth taking a few bottles home. Arrowood wines are priced mid-range for Sonoma Valley, from $25/$35 for their current Chardonnay releases and $90 for several of their excellent Cabernet Sauvignons.
Don’t leave an Arrowood Wine Adventure to chance, put them on your itinerary next time you visit Sonoma. You’ll find the staff helpful, the view wonderful and the wines fantastic. Go taste for yourself.
