2014 Boekenoogen Vineyards Pinot Noir Santa Lucia HighlandsOur Wine Of The Week is another great sip for pairing with tasty summer foods – 2014 Boekenoogen Vineyards Pinot Noir.

Boekenoogen Vineyards & Winery is located in the Santa Lucia Highlands in California’s Monterey County, a short drive southeast from the seaside villages of Carmel and Monterey. The Highlands sit mostly on hilltops and eastern slopes of mountains that separate the Pacific Ocean along Big Sur from the fertile fields of California’s central valley, an area that produces much of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes used by wine makers throughout northern and central California. Boekenoogen produces quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, plus Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and other varietals. The Boekenoogen tasting room is located nearby in Carmel Valley Village.

The 2014 Pinot Noir is a well-balanced wine with cherry and plum nuances and a long finish. Recommend decanting a few hours for this relatively older Pinot vintage. Easy to sip or pair with simple fare or spicier foods if that’s what you’re serving. About $50 retail.
