Our Wine Of The Week is 2015 Wooden Valley Winery Lanza Family Petite Sirah. This is a moderately-priced (about $43) red from the Suisun Valley AVA in Solano County, Napa Valley’s immediate neighbor to the east. This wine brings a big presence of spice, plum and berries and finishes smooth. Highly recommend a few hours in the decanter to allow this young wine to open up. 75% Petite Sirah and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 16 months in American oak barrels, 14.8% alcohol.
Lanza Family is Wooden Valley’s premium red wine label, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah varietals.
Wooden Valley Winery is owned by the Lanza family, which became partners in the winery in 1944 and sole owners in 1955. The family continues to own and farm much of Suisun Valley’s better vineyards and produce excellent white, blush and red wines.
