Our Wine Of The Week is 2016 DuMOL Estate Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, a premium Pinot Noir from the Russian River AVA in Sonoma County, California. DuMOL has been around for a number of years, but distribution is limited due to limited production. Although you may find the odd vintage and varietal in warehouse clubs, restaurants and online, primary retail sales are through its wine club member allocations.
The winery name DuMOL comes from the names of the original winemaker’s grandchildren – Duncan and Molly (that winemaker is no longer with the winery). When ownership changed hands a few years ago, the winery name remained even though a few of the wines were given new labels. Fortunately, the latest winemaker also remained and has continued to develop outstanding Sonoma County Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah, plus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and limited releases of other varietals.
The 2016 Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir is a bold Pinot with balanced characteristics that are peaking at the five year mark. Lots of black cherry and dried herbs, perfect for pairing with bold dishes or sipping by the fire. Retails $100 – $110.
