Our Wine Of The Week is another great summer sip – 2016 Wooden Valley North Coast Zinfandel. I was looking for a game-time wine (Go SF Giants!) and pulled this one from the rack just before first pitch. By the bottom of the 2nd inning it had opened up in the glass and produced excellent aroma and smooth taste.
Pairs well with light meats (e.g. turkey, pork, ham) and spiced sauces. Alcohol 14.8%.
Unfortunately, the 2016 Zinfandel is scarce in retail, but Wooden Valley produces other great red wines in the $25 – $50 price range worth a sip including: Malbec, Merlot, Barbera and Sauvignon Blanc. Since they are a relatively small producer, the best way to buy their wines is at the tasting room.
Visit Wooden Valley in beautiful Suisun Valley, about 15 minutes east of downtown Napa (see map below). Tasting room open daily 10am to 5pm.
