Our Wine Of The Week is Lanza Family Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 from the Suisun Valley AVA, a small corner in California’s broad North Coast AVA that includes Sonoma, Napa and parts of Solano and Marin Counties (see map below). For over 80 years, the Lanza Family has produced high quality varietals from their Wooden Valley Winery and Vineyards and has earned multiple awards and a loyal following among Wine Adventurers throughout Northern California and beyond.
Their signature 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 9% Malbec and Petit Verdot. The result is bold and well-balanced and checks most boxes for what Cab lovers want: dark fruits, black pepper, vanilla and – of course – a hint of chocolate. Pairs well with big foods. 15.3% alcohol, about $47 retail at the tasting room (map below). An excellent Cab for a reasonable price.
Cheers!
