Our Wine Of The Week is Tolenas Vineyards and Winery 2017 Suisun Valley Sauvignon Blanc. We went on a Wine Adventure last weekend, visiting every participant in this year’s Suisun Valley Passport Sunday 2018. About a dozen wineries, tasting rooms and other destinations poured some great wines paired with excellent bites from kitchens, barbecues and food trucks. At friendly Tenbrink Vineyards, were Tolenas wines are produced, they poured the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc.
I like the Tolenas Sauvignon Blanc as a very enjoyable midpoint on the Grapefruit Scale. Some SauvBlanc fans like the distinct grapefruit taste exhibited to a higher degree in many New Zealand imports. Recent vintages of Sonoma County and Napa Valley SauvBlancs are pulling back on the grapefruit so it’s barely noticeable. Tolenas balances citrus, tropical fruit and floral aromas to produce a well-balanced sip with 13.5% alcohol that retails at $20. Visit their web site to purchase: Tolenas Vineyards and Winery.
Where is Suisun Valley? The Suisun Valley AVA is located on the southeast corner of Napa Valley in Solano County, about fifteen minutes east of downtown Napa. The area is known for producing a number of red and white varietals – including excellent Petite Sirah.
